Review Transactions 🔍

Keep your transactions organized without losing your mind.

You should check in on your transactions regularly – daily, weekly, monthly, whatever works for you. It's like tidying your room but way less annoying.

What you'll do during reviews:

  • Categorize stuff that isn't labeled yet

  • Tag transactions for specific events (like a vacation or moving)

  • Edit transactions if needed (split them, fix dates, add notes)

Categorizing = the most important part

Click on any transaction's category field and pick the right one. But honestly? You probably won't have to do much because Munyun's AI already categorizes most stuff automatically.

Make the AI smarter: Go to your Categories page and make sure all the "AI tags" are connected to your categories. If you see a category without an AI tag, click the + ai-tag button to add one. This teaches Munyun to categorize better in the future.

Rules = your automatic robots

Instead of manually categorizing the same stuff over and over, create rules that do it automatically.

A rule has 3 parts:

  1. Conditions – What to look for (like "name contains Starbucks" or "amount is more than $100")

  2. Action – What to do with it (set category, add a tag, rename the merchant)

  3. Time Scope – When to apply it (to everything ever, or just a specific time period)

Once you save a rule, it runs automatically. You can manage all your rules in the Rules tab and adjust them whenever.

Tags = tell your money stories

Tags let you group related transactions together, even if they're in different categories.

Going to Paris? Tag every expense with "Paris Trip" and instantly see your total spending. Each tag gets its own color so they're easy to spot. You can also use tags to filter your transaction list.

Editing transactions

Sometimes you need to clean things up:

  • Split one transaction into multiple ones

  • Change the date if it's wrong

  • Add notes if the transaction name is confusing

Notes are searchable, so they're useful for finding stuff later.

Mark transactions as "reviewed"

Want to make sure you never miss checking a transaction? Turn on the "Review" feature:

  1. Hover over your profile name

  2. Click the Settings icon

  3. Check the Review Transactions box

  4. Choose if new transactions should start as "Reviewed" or "Unreviewed"

Now you can mark transactions as reviewed as you go through them.

Filters & Views

Views are saved filters that help you see exactly what you want. We give you some defaults like "Uncategorized Only" or "Expenses Only," but you can make your own:

  1. Click the Filter button

  2. Pick what to filter by (category, tag, name, etc.)

  3. Watch the list update in real-time

  4. Click Save as View to save it

Your new view will show up in the view list for quick access.

Quick Search

See a search icon anywhere in Munyun? Click it. You can search for transactions, accounts, categories, rules – basically everything. It's everywhere for a reason.

Merchant Management

Ever notice how the same store shows up 5 different ways? Like "Amazon.com," "AMAZON," "amazon," etc.? Yeah, it's messy.

Clean it up:

  1. Click the Merchants button

  2. Click rename next to any merchant

  3. Type the name you want to use

  4. Save it

Now all variations will show up under one clean name. Way easier to analyze.

Import & Export

  • Import: Pull transactions from a connected Google Spreadsheet

  • Export to CSV: Get your data out in two formats:

    • Raw – Every transaction listed exactly as you see it

    • Rollup – Summarized by category (good for taxes or accounting)

The Transactions page is where you'll spend most of your time. Get your data clean here and everything else gets easier.
