Time Selection ⏰
Filter your data to exactly the timeframe you need.
Time selection lets you filter transactions and data by specific time periods. It's everywhere in Munyun – on your transactions page, categories page, and in every block you create.
Two ways to select time:
Time Macros (dynamic, auto-updating)
Custom Time Range (specific dates you pick)
Time Macros (the smart way)
Macros are dynamic, which means they automatically update based on today's date. Super useful for dashboards that stay current without you having to change anything.
Available macros:
Current – Current week, month, quarter, or year (always updates to whatever "current" means today)
Previous – Last week, last month, last quarter, or last year
Last X days – Last 7 days, last 30 days, etc. (always includes today and counts backward)
Next X days – Next 7 days, next 30 days, etc. (for seeing future scheduled transactions)
Why macros are clutch: They're set-it-and-forget-it. Pick "Current Month" and it'll always show the current month, no matter when you're looking at it.
Custom Time Range (picking specific dates)
Sometimes you want exact dates. Like "January 1 to March 31" for Q1 results that don't change.
How it works:
Set a start date
Set an end date
Use shortcuts if you want:
Till Today – Ends the range at today (perfect for "year to date")
Select Month – Sets range to an entire month
Pro tip: How to make "Year to Date" or "Month to Date"
Want to see "everything this year up until today" (not including future dates)?
Pick "Current Year" macro on the left
Open Custom Time Range on the right
Click "Till Today"
Done. That's your Year to Date range. Same trick works for Month to Date – just start with "Current Month" instead.
Time selection in blocks
When building blocks for your dashboard, usually you want to use Time Macros so the block automatically updates with fresh data.
Use Custom Time Range only when you want to pin a block to a specific period that won't change (like "our Q3 2024 results" for a retrospective).
Special macros worth knowing:
All Time – Shows everything from your entire transaction history. Great for total net worth, lifetime spending summaries, etc.
Next X Days – Shows future time. Only useful for blocks displaying scheduled transactions or future projections (like upcoming bills).
Year to Date – As explained above, combine "Current Year" with "Till Today" to exclude future dates.
Bottom line:
Time selection in Munyun is super flexible. Master these options and you can create blocks that show exactly what you need, automatically updated or locked to specific periods.
Play around with it – once you get the hang of macros vs custom ranges, building useful dashboards gets way easier.
